Vero.

I have a friend who really hates Vero.

Change 'Aberration.' with this one!

My lifetime goal of taking a photo that's entirely out of focus is now achieved.

Rainy Easter

Looking out the window - trying to catch the patterns in the rain.

Regression

This was taken at Piha, the very first outing with my 300mm lens.

Friday, April 22

Here, take it.

Have some birds, here:

Technical note: I pulled out my camera and shot into the sky from a moving car through the window. I don't even know any of the settings. Then I played for a long time adjusting colours and contrast, then I got sick of it.

The only thing of note here is that I fiddled with the colour balance and the tint to make it somewhat colour-neutral instead of clicking the black-and-white button, because I kinda liked the colour noise.

I'm a big fan of noise.

Overcooked

I'm sorry about the overcookedness. And also about the uninterestingness. The former was an attempt at solving the latter problem. Instead, the problems got compounded.

For those who care, this is the Cornwallis wharf.

Bright.

Did you notice how no pixel in the photo below is black?

Yeah, neither did I. Who notices things like that?

White Faced Heron

Also known as Ardea novaehollandiae, are a pain in the butt to take photos because they are shy and they're always in the mud.

This photo got my shoes very wet indeed.

Monday, April 18

Three random beach scenes.

I don't think any of these warrant a post on their own.

Put together, though, they might be three times as pointless. That would be an achievement of its own.

Sunday, April 17

Easter moon.

Easter is next weekend. Moon is not yet full.

Got lucky with a slight bit of cloud to give me some light beside the moon.

Saturday, April 16

Duck

Ducks are everywhere, but that doesn't make them easy to photograph.

As you can guess, this is the same morning as 'Step into the light'.

Burn.

I guess the ambient light needs to be just right so that it gives enough details in the non-fire areas, but dark enough that the fire pops out.

If you look closely, you can see the tip of a banana at the bottom of the frame. That thing contains the banana and chocolate - also known as the Concentrated Awesome.

This is when you need spot metering.

You need spot metering when you're taking a photo of an eye through a cardboard tube.

This phallic building,

that stands on Shortland St, is also the workplace of a close friend of mine.

Greasy Lens

When a lens gets greasy, it's pretty straightforward to clean. When a lens gets greasy inside, not so simple.

Here's a front view:

And from the rear:

Undefended.

This week has been strange.

I like the sunset sky. I don't care if this is cheap. I don't care if I cropped the sun and the horizon.

Isn't life all too short not to look at the sunset sky over and over and over again?

Sunday, April 10

Lines, boredom and false colour.

In fact, I set out to get some interesting reflections on building windows - as clichéd as they are, I find them pleasing.

To maximise the effect, the reflection would need to be something distinctly non-modern. The form would need to be discernible, and the lighting at least somewhat interesting.

This picture ticks none of those boxes, but hey, it's worth trying. I never said I set out to get something 'good'.

After a long pause.

Even after a long pause, I'm still not taking any better photos.

May be my departure from overtly false coloured photos will be a good thing. Or it may be a painfully boring thing. Like this picture here.
